Portraits
I think portraits and the human figure are the ultimate challenge for the artist. You just can't get away with bad draftsmanship- it doesn't take an artist or anatomy expert to see when a hand or eye doesn't 'look right'.
I use any media that best suits the speed I need to work at and the effect that I want in the finished painting. Drawing material like pencil and charcoal allow quick capture of the image from life. Painting from life can be a tough challenge in todays hectic life- not every sitter can sit for hours on end. Pastel can be a quick media for painting from life as it is very direct. Painting in acrylic or oil often means that photos have to be used for reference.
Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning a portrait, happy to discuss any project!
